  • I love this church. With great and involving services and a superb environment, this might be the best Catholic Church on the block. You don't need to be huge, and St. Joseph's is a great example of how a small church might just be one of the best.

  • This review is more of a response, addressed to Amelia McDermot's recent review.

Amelia, you voiced many negative opinions about the Catholic Church in your post.

Some of your statements demonstrated your unwillingness to forgive various Catholic people, and others seemed to demonstrate an incomplete understanding of Christian history and the Catholic Faith.

Remember that Christ encourages us to forgive others ad infinitum.

I invite you to contact the St. Joseph's office and ask for my contact information - I would be honored to hear and respond to your objections to Catholicism in a mutually-respectful manner and at a neutral forum.

Congratulations on the birth and baptism of your child, by the way.

We took classes here for parents & sponsors of our daughter's baptism. The lady who gave the class was absolutely absurd. She went on for over an hour basically telling us her ministry travel stories, how many sacrifices she's made, and how much work she's done spreading the Lord's word to others. She continuously said we are all horrible Catholics who will probably not go to Heaven unless we practice the Catholic religion perfectly, like going to church every Sunday, as missing Mass is a mortal sin. She went on and on, condemning us for a plethora of actions, most of which were her personal opinions & nothing to do with baptism, such as women dressing inappropriately at church. She grossly contradicted herself by saying that, while people of other religions will go to Heaven if they're good (because they don't know any better according to her), people who know the Catholic religion can't go unless they follow the rules, however, her late husband wasn't Catholic, but according to her, he's in Heaven because he was a good man who opened up his home to Catholic priests.
When she finally got to the point about what we were there for (to learn about baptism & our role as parents & sponsors), she said that children who aren't baptized are like "dogs," and it isn't until after they're baptized, that they are seen as "children." What?! I really didn't learn anything about the process, history or meaning of baptism & why we do it, nor did I learn anything about my role as a parent or sponsor to a baptized child.
I am truly appalled that they allow such preaching at the church. Her judgmental, condescending words & tone, and her trying to pass her personal agenda & opinions off as the true path to salvation, have no place in these classes or the religion itself. The religion already has incredible flaws in its moral fiber with what's been allowed to continue to happen with molestation cover-ups. Preaching in absolute, assuming you know exactly what God wants and judging others, instead of truly teaching the words of Jesus (such as, be kind to your neighbor, help the less fortunate, don't cast any stones unless you're perfect, and let the children come to Him -I'm sure He doesn't like how His children are treated, by the way), and be a good person, are reasons why people have & will continue to distance themselves from the church.
